Slugs and Stuff

One of the coolest Christmas presents I received this year was a package of five uncleaned coins from Dirty Old Coins.  It’s been a lot of fun to spend the past few days cleaning centuries of dirt and gunk off of them in order to reveal…

well, nothing.  Looks like all of the five coins I received are what are called “slugs”, coins worn so smooth that no detail remains.

Still, they’re old.  Ancient even.  And being the history buff that I am, it’s pretty neat to hold a little bit of history in your hand.

Cam, I agree with you about the exhilaration of holding a piece of history in your hand. When the Titanic exhibit was here in OKC, they had one of the life davits(?) behind the rope and even though I was sure an alarm was going to go off, I couldn’t help but reach past the “Do NOT touch” sign. What some people might consider just a piece of cold, hard steel, I consider it to be a piece of history.

I have a friend who is trying to get me into the hobby of metal detecting. After driving past the shores of Lake Stanley Draper and seeing them at 30 year lows, I can’t help but wonder what someone may have lost ten feet from the shoreline years ago, which is now 3 feet above the waterline. Also, a lot of the material referencing metal detecting says there is more money out there on the ground (and just under the surface) than is actaully in circulation.

Just think Cam. If you had a metal detector, you might actually find Civil War bullets, belt buckles, buttons, guns, etc right in your backyard!! Talk about holding history!!

    Happy New Year all!!

I am still waiting for you to change your site so that it can be read. It is all dim green text on black and is very unreadable. Of course I have complained since forever but you dont’ care if people can read your site or not. You always just tell me that it is just my tough luck that you have decided to use a page format that is unreadable on most browsers. Now maybe your web dude has installed special stuff on YOUR comptuter to make it look nice but he hasn’t come by my house.

And I really like the feature where you cannot recieve actual email that could have a picture in it that shows how awful your site looks.

Damn, I don’t know why I ever come back here and complain like this. It isn’t like you give a damn about your readers. You have never cared before.

Yes, you’re right Steve. I’ve never cared about the readers, or my listeners. Every good talk show host and blogger knows the way to be successful is to not give a damn about your audience. :rolleyes

Seriously, until last week I had heard from exactly two people regarding this problem. I’m not a tech guy, and the blog designer who built this site has been backed up and on vacation. I sent her an email last week, however, asking if this could be something to do with the blog design and IE7 not playing well together. If it is, then I’ll pay for a site redesign and we’ll get the problem fixed.

Do what I do, Steve. I read Cam’s BLOG on Firefox where it works just fine. It’s free, too.

    People still use IE7?

Most IT people recommend Mozilla Firefox.

Firefox at work and whatever is AOL’s browser at home. Seldom EVER have trouble reading Cam’s blog.

    Happy New Year to all.
