McCain on the 1st Amendment

Via Mark Tapscott:

I would rather have a clean government than one where quote First Amendment rights are being respected, that has become corrupt. If I had my choice, I’d rather have the clean government.”

I’d rather have politicians support the Constitution.

Everyone has had a ‘brain fart’ and said something they probably should not have upon further reflection. Senator McCain is so fixated on campaign finance reform that he often makes these statements implying some ’cause and effect’ linkage between speech, money and good government. Limiting free speech does not produce clean government. Politicans without ethics are the problem.

I knew I saved this quote for a reason.

“What we have is two important values in conflict: freedom of speech and our desire for healthy campaigns and a healthy democracy. You can’t have both.” Representative Dick Gephardt (D-MO) on campaign finance reform.

Make that FORMER Rep. Dick Gephardt. Hopefully, FORMER Sen. John McCain isn’t too far behind.

McCain’s first error: (From the article)”He [Michael Graham] also mentioned my abridgement of First Amendment rights, i.e. talking about campaign finance reform….I know that money corrupts….

Money does not corrupt any more than guns cause crime or pens cause misspelled words. The corrupt accept money in payment for their vote or power. The corrupt use quid pro quo to wheel and deal their agenda. The corrupt curry favors for favorable gain. The CORRUPT are the problem, not the money, the quid pro quo, or the favors.

Open the floodgates. We’ll soon see who the corrupt are. McCain’s atrocious Act only succeeded in HIDING the corrupt. Do you think maybe that was his goal all along? I do!

McCain did NOT have a brain fart; this is what he actually believes. He wants to be the occupant of the White House so bad that he’ll trash anything he thinks is in the way, including the Constitution he’s taken an oath to protect and defend.

    Amen, Kevin!

Farrah, you’ve got your mission stated right there. Retire McCain and get him replaced with a real conservative.

For what McCain went through in Veit Nam, I have all the respect in the world for him. However, in my humble opinion, no one can spend 7 years as a prisoner of war without coming home with a few snakes in your head. I would not vote for McCain if he were running for any office.

I think his appearance on SNL gave him the false impression that he is popular.

The problem is that McCain the unremoveable Kennedy-like-career-senator from Arizona. Everybody hates him but no one can topple him. This why term limits are needed.

He is as conservative as Barb Boxer (who he often stands shoulder to shoulder to vote with).

…I still write his office and complain everytime he votes with the liberal aganda.

Since when must we choose between a clean government and the First Amendment? It is possible to have both. Unfortunately, we haven’t had a clean government in decades. However, they are not mutually exclusive.

I didn’t see this post earlier. McCain scares me; I think they got to him in prison camp. There, I said it.

[…] Can we just stipulate that, if you’re interested in running for President, you probably should reduce the occasions in which you appear on popular national radio programs and dis the First Amendment. […]
