Clean Sports

John McCain is sponsoring the Clean Sports Act of 2005.

The legislation aims to require standardized testing procedures and stiffer punishments for athletes who test positive for banned substances.

McCain, joined by fellow Republican Congressmen Mark Souder of Indiana and Thomas Davis of Virginia and Democrats Henry A. Waxman of California and Elijah E. Cummings of Maryland, called at a news conference for the four major professional leagues to institute a system at least as tough as the one for the Olympics.

Anything for a soundbite, I suppose. But the idea of a bunch of politicians trying to “clean up” professional sports is a bit ironic, isn’t it?

On a side note, the bill will also require that professional athletes must register all hours logged doing advertising for sponsors and those advertisements cannot be shown within sixty days of a game.

It is galling that this guy, McCain, who so completely blew campaign finance reform, thinks he has any standing at all to go forward with other idiotic schemes like this. No doubt the Clean Sports Act will provide legal ways to use all the steriods you want. You just go to a 527 organization and they will be allowed to pump you full of however much you want with no limits or oversight.

Yeah, if it is anything like McCains CFR then this will remove whatever hurdles there are now to steriod use. Oh, and if people who are not in professional sports use steroids you will go to prison forever. Only professionals can go to the 527s and use with abandon.

Why can’t McCain go for clean advice and consent like the sports thing he thinks he can legislate into bliss?

McCain did such a good job cleaning up the money in politics. I can’t wait to see how well he does with this.

Btw, someone wanted me to pass along this note:

Senator McCain, we have been trying to send you your check, but it appears your address has recently changed. Please update us with your new address.

    With love,

As much as I think, professional sports needs to be cleaned up, John McCain is not the one to get the job done. I have all the respect in the world for a prisoner of war that can survive 6 or 7 years captivity. Sometimes the body survives what the mind cannot. John has snakes in his head.

So who’s gonna sponsor a Clean Politicians Act of 2005? Let them pee in a cup AND take a lie-detector test about their finances.
