Berger Pleads Guilty

Sandy Berger’s set to plead guilty to removing classified documents from the National Archives. The crime is a misdemeanor.

It’s a misdemeanor to steal classified documents from the National Archives??!??

The charge of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material is a misdemeanor that carries a maximum sentence of a year in prison and up to a $100,000 fine.

If he actually gets jail time I’ll be shocked. I’m guessing three months suspended sentence and a 20k fine.

I’d say he’ll get probation and a small $10,000 fine, if that.

I’m more interested in what he did with them and the content of them. That might net a whole ‘nuther level of justice.

And take this from someone who generally supports the Bush guys, but…

If the Bush administration is so bound by “rule of law” as in the Terri Schindler case, what pray-tell of the theft, loss or mismanagement of document classified at the highest level of secrecy (which would imply that their falling into the wrong hands could be devastating for us and our policies) and for that matter what of the willful distruction, vandalism and even theft by Clintonistas of White House property in 2000? What of inforcing the borders?

Does Bush have a personal “boundries” issue? :p
