And I’m not quite ready to yet, but Oscar viewership was actually DOWN 2 million viewers from last year’s show.
The drop in total viewership was an indication that this year’s Oscar ceremony was more popular in the big cities than rural areas, more so than an average Academy Awards, said Larry Hyams, vice president of audience analysis and research for ABC.
Countdown to Prudish Red Staters, or the evil conservative Evangelicals brainwashing their flock not to watch the awards excuses in 5……4……3…….
I know I didn’t watch it this year.
Oh wait. I didn’t watch it last year. In fact…
Were we supposed to care about the Oscars? My one prediction for the year was accurate…The Passion of the Christ wasn’t nominated for best pic.
The Avenger wishes to point out that the ratings were down just 2 million in a year without a big blockbuster nominee like Lord Of The Rings to boost viewership.
Although most of the news stories I read seemed to blame Chris Rock. Numbers were down with Steve Martin too. Funny white guy, funny black guy.
And the Avenger is sick and tired of people bitching and moaning about Passion of the Christ being omitted from Best Picture. Just because it’s about Jesus doesn’t make it a great movie. The same hypocritical motherf$%&ers who couldn’t stand .32 seconds of Janet Jackson boob are the same ones who seem to be okay watching a poor defenseless guy get his ass beat for 120 minutes. Personally, the Avenger will take a little boob shot over 120 minutes of senseless violence any day. The Avneger is a lover, not a fighter.
LA
LA,
Apparently you aren’t a Christian. While Jesus Christ suffered and died for the sins of mankind, what did Janet Jackson’s anatomical part do for anyone? I’m certainly not interested in viewing parts of the body of someone who is past their prime.
Shall we go back and see what films in the past have won best picture? How many of them will be filled with graphic violence?
Personally, I don’t care if Passion of the Christ gets the Best Picture Oscar. It got the Best Picture Award from moviegoers, not Academy Award judges.
The Avenger is, in fact, a Catholic. But he didn’t grow up in one of those households where you learn to be ashamed of the human body.
Allow the Avenger to clarify his position…graphic violence? okay. Gratuitous violence? Bad. Personally, I think Passion could have told the same story without as much of the Jesus-beatdown and been a much more effective picture.
And please remember that Passion received its award for best film from the same group of voters who named Farenheit 9/11 among the best films of the year too.
LA
If memory serves my dear LA, weren’t you an altar boy?
LA, the fuss about Ms Jackson, for me anyway, is that it was during a family show. I have no problem with shows like NYPD Blue showing nudity since it is not a family show and they have the warning before so that if you do not wish to see the nudity, you will be alerted and be able to use the remote to change the station. Ms Jackson did not alert the public beforehand so the people who were watching it did not have the choice to change the station.
As for the Passion, yes, it was graphic and violent, but it accurately depicted what Jesus endured for us. Yes, LA, even you. *S* He endured that punishment because of your sins and my sins and even Cam’s sins.
I don’t know if it was the best picture released last year, but I knew before it came out that no matter how good it was, there was no way it would be nominated for best picture. I didn’t see any of the nominated films, so I can not compare it to them, but it was the best picture that I did see last year.
Your memory serves you impeccably as always Ms. Whitworth.
The Avenger is all for the Super Bowl being good wholesome family entertainment Revelator. But let’s not kid ourselves here. You can’t get five minutes into a professional sports broadcast anymore without being bombarded with ads for keeping one’s Avenging pecker up. Personally, all the Avenger needs is the Coors Light twins…who usually show up two commercials later.
As for Best Picture…the Avenger raises a fine glass of Oregon Pinot to Sideways.
