So John Kerry’s sticking with his story that he went to Cambodia, telling Tim Russert on “Meet the Press” that he hopes the imaginary secret CIA guy who gave him the hat comes forward. He also said that the mission was ferrying weapons to the Khmer Rouge, which is odd, since that was a Communist army headed by Pol Pot.
Gerahty has more, and you really should read all of today’s entries about the “Meet the Press” interview. Kerry’s Cambodia story just gets more odd as the days go on.

Well, I was hoping to have some new nifty ultrasound pictures for you today, but the babies weren’t cooperating. I do know that both of them are doing fine, and are big suckers. The estimates have them weighing four pounds each right now, which is fantastic (for the babies, not for my wife). Baby boy is very active. He started out head-up during the ultrasound, and managed to completely turn himself upside down at some point. That left baby girl with her knee in his face, which doesn’t sound comfortable to me, but he didn’t seem to mind.
Hard to believe I get to meet these two in (most likely) six or seven weeks. You think the blog updates are sporadic now… just wait!

I cashed in some favors today and went on a tour of the Pentagon. It’s an amazing place. Three and a half times the office space of Empire State Building, spread out over five stories. Much of the building seemed like a museum with displays, paintings, etc. And of course one portion of the building seems more like a church than a military office.
Seeing and being at the place where the Pentagon was struck on 9/11 was odd. It had a completely different feeling than the Murrah Memorial. Maybe it was the fact that the memorial was inside and closed off, rather than open to the elements. Whatever it was, the grief and sorrow seemed more tangible in the Pentagon than in downtown Oklahoma City.
On a brighter note, I got to the place where Donald Rumsfeld plots to take over the world runs the Defense Department. And a wrong turn let me see… actually, I’d better not say anything about that.
It was a great time, and I need to thank Airman 1st Class Steve for showing me around.

Michael Graham, who’s a talk show host on WMAL in DC, has actually done something amusing (he’s a former stand-up comic turned talk show host, and I normally don’t find him to be funny).
He’s put himself up for sale on Ebay.
I do take exception to his statement that the NRA would perhaps want to bid on his services.
They already have a talk show host, Michael (and one who fully discloses his biases and his agenda, thank you very much).

Liverpool, England’s getting ready to get randy.
England’s first prostitution tolerance zone could be set up within months after councillors in Liverpool approved the move.
They will now write to Home Secretary Charles Clarke to get his approval for the scheme.
Up to five areas of the city could be earmarked as vice-friendly zones but council leaders say the locations have not been decided.
Under the plan, sex for sale would be allowed during the night.
A Liverpool City Council spokeswoman said: “The council has voted with an overwhelming majority to approach the Home Office with our plans.
“The majority was so clear vocally that we did not need to take a hand count on it. It was a very rapid decision.
“This means we are going to move quickly in approaching the Home Office with our plans and the ball will be in their court.
“It is now up to the Home Office to decide if we can have the UK’s first official managed zone.”
So guns are banned, but prostitution’s okay? England’s a wacky place these days.

Is this a case of life imitating a television show?
A Metrolink commuter train rammed into a vehicle that was apparently deliberately placed on the railroad tracks, setting off a derailment that killed nine people and injuring more than 100 others, authorities said.
Los Angeles Sheriff Lee Baca said authorities were speaking with the driver of the vehicle and believe it was intentionally parked on the tracks.
Fans of “24″ will recall the opening episode of this season, when a commuter train derailed because terrorists had deliberately parked a car on the tracks. Wonder what the story is in real life.
By the way, one of our commentors referenced a Michelle Malkin blog entry about one of the actresses on “24″ and her comments on terrorism. Great comments, and you can read them here.

From Fox News
Two boys, ages 9 and 10, were charged with felonies and taken away from school in handcuffs, accused of making violent drawings of stick figures
The special education students (search) used pencil and red crayon to draw primitive stick figure scenes on scrap paper that showed a 10-year-old classmate being stabbed and hung, police said.
“The officer found they were drawing these pictures for the sole purpose of intimidating and scaring the victim,” said Ocala Police Sgt. Russ Kern
Ok, this is serious, I’ll agree. But a A FELONY?
**UPDATE**
Link to the threatening stick figures.

Just an update on why the blog posts may be spotty for the next several weeks. Last week the doctor put my lovely bride on bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy. Everything seems to be okay, but there’s some concern that she’s beginning to dilate already. Better safe than sorry, so she’s on the couch.
As you can imagine, this is leaving me with less time to blog. Hopefully Farrah will continue to provide her voice to the blog, and I’ll be chiming in as time allows, but this place might be kind of slow for the next 6-8 weeks. Just a word of warning for you.

Jim picked up on the Heritage Foundation reference in last night’s “24″ as well. I’ve been doing more thinking about this, and I’m pretty sure that while there may be one rogue bad guy who’s a conservative, in general this is going to be a positive show for the military and Republicans.
Why? Because they military is cooperating with the filming. They’re using military pilots and military members in some of the scenes, and the Pentagon doesn’t sign off on something like that if they’re the bad guys.

Michael Moore’s been shut out of the Oscars.
It’s all a Karl Rovian plot, isn’t it Mikey?

Wow. The first ten minutes of 24 were pretty darn good. I love a show that shows our troops as top-notch. I love a show that portrays a Secretary of Defense as being pretty darn good with a gun.
I just hope I’m not being set up. If the Republicans turn out to be creeps, or if the terrorists turn out to really be Amish mafia instead of Islamic fundamentalists, 24 loses me
**Update**
One of the bad guys apparently attended a “Heritage Foundation dinner”. Is this the start of the “conservatives are evil” storyline?

From Tongue Tied comes news that the University of Oregon has banned the “Support Our Troops” bumper stickers from campus vehicles because it might be political speech.
If supporting the troops is now reasonably seen as the point of view of only Republicans, then Democrats are in worse shape than I thought.

The Diplomad has the details on just how stingy the US really is.
Posted by: Farrah
What do Democrats do when they can’t win a debate on the issues? They launch personal attacks against the other party, or they play the victim and whine about how unfair their adversary is playing. Sometimes, they even resort to physical violence.
It’s good to see Barbara Boxer sticking to the formula.
Because, you know it was Condi that went after Boxer, completely unprovoked, in the confirmation hearings.
Poor, defenseless Babs.

Compare that Iraqi TV ad, with posters spotted around Basra…
British sources said that posters have been spotted elsewhere in the South that bear the striking symbol of a headless body and an ink-marked thumb beside the words: “You vote, you die”.
The elections must take place at the end of the week, no matter what.

Iraqi election ad run on Al-Arabia TV on January 2, 2005.
I wish the MSM would run this add right next to photos of the Moonbats from Thursday. I’d even settle for just the flash images of the doom and gloom headlines from Bushie’s speech while this ad plays.

A death of a thousand cuts…
CNN hemorrhaged more than half their audience from the 2001 Inauguration, overnights show. The troubled news network only averaged 779,000 viewers during yesterday’s Inauguration coverage from 10am-4pm with just 168,000 of those viewers landing in the coveted 25-54 demo.
Like CNN, MSNBC also suffered major losses, only averaging 438,000 viewers throughout yesterday’s coverage (141,000 in 25-54), down a whopping 68% over 2001 and faring even worse in primetime with just 385,000 viewers.
In contrast, Fox News averaged 2,581,000 viewers from 10a-4p (up 30% over 2001) and their 25-54 demo average of 705,000 came close to CNN’s total coverage ratings yesterday.
Is that the faint sound of Taps I hear in the background?

Where were the gals from NOW during Condi Rice’s confirmation hearings? You’d think they’d be defending the youngest female ever nominated to Secretary of State. Nononononono silly me. Condi’s a Republican, she’s not a real female.
So what were they doing? Busy slamming the President of Harvard for his stupid comments.
After checking out NOW’s website, trying to contact the local chapter about the TSA boobie issue and that fruitless conversation, and some serious post-Feminist soul searching I have come to the same conclusion as Collin Levey in the Seattle Times.
It’s now painfully clear that feminist groups aren’t mainly concerned about the actual success earned by real women. (Among other things, that would involve noting that women can succeed without feminists’ help.)
That makes me sad.
There is so much good still to be done for real women like me. It’s really a shame that the main feminist groups in this country have regressed into nothing more than mouthpieces for the DNC platform.

Tonight was the big drinking fest NRO gathering in Washington D.C. Had a wonderful time, and it was great to meet some of the folks that I hear from on the show, including the lovely and gracious Janine from Bethesda.
For those who couldn’t make it, I thought I’d do a little pubblogging.

That’s Jonah Goldberg in the middle. Very nice guy, although I think he was at a loss for words when he heard I worked for NRAnews.com. I made some witty remark about it being the National Restaurant Association, and how we’re really pushing “right-to-curry” this year. He laughed.

That is not Ramesh Ponnuru. Ramesh is behind this guy, who decided he would get in every single picture I tried to take. Thank you sir. Hope you enjoyed the evening.

A very fuzzy John J. Miller, author of “I Hate the French” or “Eat Me, Frenchy” or something like that. He plugs it about every three minutes on NRO if you want to read it. (Actually, it’s called Our Oldest Enemy and Mr. Miller spent the evening chatting with fans. Seemed like a very nice guy).

There were a lot of women there. Hot, conservative women, as a matter of fact. This is a random table of hotties.

Everybody wanted to talk to Gerahty tonight. He was a star. I think I took this picture while he was in the middle of a Wonkette joke.

And there it is… photographic proof that I know Pajama bin Bloggin’. Why I have such a ticked off look on my face I have no idea.
Also ran into Thurston Howell IV from Billionaires for Bush. Very nice guy, even though I completely disagree with him. And from what I understand, he had no clue he was going to be drinking with a bunch of real conservatives.
Poor guy.

James Dobson’s lost me with his Spongebob crusade. To go after Spongebob because he’s a camp figure in the gay community is akin to going after personal hygiene because gay people are stereotypically fastidious. And you know, tolerance for everybody isn’t a bad message. There is a difference (at least to me) between tolerance and acceptance and approval.
I think Focus on the Family is still a good organization, but (in my opinion) they made a mistake with this crusade.

I don’t know how much more eloquently I can put it. They suck. They’re elitist, lazy, pessimistic, rabidly anti-Bush and beyond biased.
My second favorite blogger, Arthur Chrenkoff (not to be confused with Michael Chertoff) prepared a nice little breakdown of the sheer bile spewed out as news by the MSM. He compared all of the day’s stories on the Administration. He searched for negative stories and positive stories, and quantified his results.
Some interesting, though not surprising results.
Here are the totals for some selected negative stories Chrenkoff found in today’s papers. Note I said selected, there are many more.
2,345 stories about President Bush’s inauguration, in the context of the President failing to mention the word “Iraq” in his speech, or indeed discuss the war
2,642 stories about Condi Rice’s confirmation hearings, in the context of grilling she has received over the Administration’s Iraq policy
761 stories reporting on activities and public statements of insurgents
357 stories about the anti-war movement and the dropping public support for involvement in Iraq
182 stories about American servicemen killed and wounded in operations
217 stories about concerns for fairness and validity of Iraqi election (low security, low turnout, etc.)
And here is what the MSM tries to pass off as positive stories…IN TOTAL.
311 stories about voter registration for Iraqis overseas. Even here we have to be cautious as significant number of these stories comment on “disappointingly” low numbers registering.
16 stories about security successes in the fight against insurgents
7 stories about positive developments relating to elections
73 stories about the return to Iraq of stolen antiques.
How many articles that mention Dr. Rice’s confirmation hearings mention Barbara “Babs” Boxer calling Dr. Rice a liar? Do you think they mention the John “Flip Flopper” Kerry, on the day he was present in the Senate hearings, saying how he thought Dr. Rice was qualified but proceeded to vote against her? I doubt it.
At some point, Ma and Pa RedState, and even the moderate Ma and Pa BlueState are going to get fed up with this crap the MSM tries to pass of as “news”. The question is, will anyone of influence in the MSM figure it out before they are completely marginalized?
Or are they already marginalized?

In the grand scheme of things, it wouldn’t suck at all. But still, you’re a Red Sox fan who misses the World Series victory because you’re in a coma?
Perhaps this will motivate the Sox to repeat next year.

That was Mary Cheney holding the Bible for her father as he was sworn in as Vice President this morning.
Lynne Cheney is beaming with pride, no doubt in her husband and her daughter. Doesn’t look like Lynne is really ashamed of Mary, does it?
