Fighting the Nanny State Since 2003

If this Pumkin Poll is any indication, Bush will win by a Reagan/Mondale style landslide on Tuesday.

I do question how scientific a poll can be, when I stumbled upon it hunting for pumpkin carving templates. I did get three free carving templates for voting. I wonder if my lack of artistic talent would keep me from carving a Bush pumpkin that resembles the template….

While visiting the Valley of the Sun in September, Teresa Heinz Kerry said, about Usama Bin Laden “I wouldn’t be surprised if he appeared in the next month”.

Poof, here he is, just like she said he would be.

Read the transcript here.

You think Michael Moore feels any pangs of regret, now that a terrorist is using his talking points?

You think any Democratic Underground readers feel ashamed, knowing that a man who wants to kill them also is able to use their words to try and influence the election?

Osama bin Laden said Iraq was all about the U.S. stealing Iraq’s oil. He talked about Bush caring more about a story about a goat than 50,000 people in the WTC. Hell, he even said Bush was selected, not elected.

No, he didn’t endorse John Kerry. Even worse. He barely mentioned him at all.

Your security is not in the hands of Kerry or Bush or Al Qaeda. Your security is in your hands. Each state that doenst mess with our security has automatically secured their security.

Both candidates say they will continue to fight terrorism, continue to hunt down Osama bin Laden. But most Americans trust President Bush to do a better job of that. And Osama bin Laden just reminded everyone in this country that the most important issue isn’t the economy. It isn’t healthcare. It’s who is going to work harder to keep you safe, and who really wants to kill those who would do us harm.

I really like having Jim Gerahty in studio every Friday. Makes it easy to link to stories that we covered on the show.

For instance, this story which broke on NRAnews.com about a lawsuit filed over Pennsylvania’s prisoners and voter registration.

And this interview with Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell.

Thanks Jim!

I live and die by my day planner. Not one of those fancy Blackberry’s, but an old fashioned paper planner. I am so anal about my schedule, that I make appointments with my hairdresser a year in advance. When my calendar is a mess, I’m a mess.

Anyway, I can relate to planning ahead, but I think this might be a little premature.

“Senator Joseph Biden of Delaware has been asked by Mr Kerry to become Secretary of State in a Democratic administration, according to Kerry campaign aides.”

Remember last year, when the Red Sox started preparing Fenway for the World Series before the ALCS had even been decided? Boston ended up losing to the Yankees. You’d think, as a Red Sox fan, John Kerry would be concerned about jynxing things.

Someone in the Bush camp was listening to Cam’s show today. Curt Schilling will be stumping with GWB tomorrow in New Hampshire.

No word yet on whether Curt is headed to Philly.

According to Drudge, the terror tape ABC has in its posession has now been authenticated and ABC is weighing the political implications of airing it.

I’m still urging caution, as I haven’t seen this confirmed by any other news outlet. If it is indeed true, and the tape is legit, the story will be picked up by other outlets through their sources soon enough.

But IF this turns out to be true, which do you think influences the election more? Airing the tape, or not? Why is it even a question for ABC? It’s not up to the journalists to decide what information the public needs. If this tape in question is legit, some network news outlet will get their hands on it and run with it. ABC should be the lead in this and let the people decide if its important enough to impact the election. Unless of course they’re afraid of HOW it will impact the election.

**UPDATE** ABC has aired parts of the video. Glad to see they’re running with this one. Being on the west coast I’m at a disadvantage, all our nightly world news programs are tape delayed. I heard Brit Hume showed it, but the office here doesn’t have cable. I hope to see some of it tonight. If/When you see it, let me know your thoughts.

**UPDATE** I’ve seen a few clips of the video, and something still doesn’t seem right to me. The video seems too polished compared to the videos released in the past. Like there was a script, and a teleprompter.

Larry offers an interesting, and completely plausable theory on how the 380 tons of explosive materials were shipped out of Iraq.

Pretty terryfying, I think. That’s why I decided to do something about it - I joined a new organization devoted entirely to the erradication of those clowns.

Unreal. “Wait ’til next year” just turned into “this was our year.”

Thank you, Boston Red Sox. Thank you for a great year. Thanks for having fun. Thanks for being scruffy and idiotic.

Thanks for winning.

Something tells me John Kerry’s going to regret jumping on the “missing explosives” bandwagon.

Some nutjob in Florida assaulted his girlfriend because she wanted to vote for John Kerry.

This guy obviously needs an anger management seminar or some counseling. But here’s what I want to know - do you think she dumped him after that?

Hey asshat, running down Katherine Harris with your Caddy is not “political expression” protected by the First Ammendment. It’s a felony.

I want to caution everyone about Drudge’s latest exclusive. I love Drudge, but this needs to be vetted.

If it turns out to be true, I just have one thing to say: Holy Crap!

**Update** According to the WaPo and the experts they consulted, this tape is typical Al Qaeda propaganda. The usual tirades about the Great Satan, Bush is a dog, blah blah blah The tape even contains a rant on same sex marriage. I don’t remember that being a hot button issue with Al Qaeda or any of the larger terrorist organizations. Couple that with the timing, the tape just seems odd to me.

While I’m skeptical, I’m not totally prepared to write off the video as a hoax. The CIA can’t confirm the authenticty of the tape, but I think it’s safe to say it’s not a prank. Maybe a copycat, but not a prank. I think ABC made the responsible decision.

But I reserve the right to change my mind at a later date.

When John Edwards says “we’re never going to take away your right to ride a snowmobile in a national park”, he’s either announcing a new platform for the Kedwards campaign or he’s not telling the truth.

Kinda like those “John Kerry’s passionately defended the 2nd amendment” ads the Democrats in Wisconsin were mailing out last week.

Ignore the rhetoric. Look at the record.

Posted by: Cam

I’m sure he’s not the only one, but it’s interesting to hear why State Rep. Brian Golden is voting for Bush next week.

The Tucson office of the Arizona Republican Party received a bomb threat yesterday afternoon. This, on the heels of the bomb threat in Lake Havasu City on Thursday of last week.

This was no where, NO WHERE in the state’s largest paper today. Why am I hearing about this from my Business Journal daily email update?

I’m starting to get seriously pissed off. This violence has to stop. America is better than this.

John Kerry’s sticking by his claim that he was at Game 6 of the 1986 World Series between the New York Mets and the Boston Red Sox, despite the fact that a Boston Globe article has Kerry attending a fundraiser in Boston that night. Kerry spokesman Michael Meehan has the explanation.

“Sen. Kerry attended a public event in [Massachusetts] in the early evening and hopped a shuttle flight from Boston to NYC. [Kerry] got to Shea with the game in progress,” Michael Meehan, Kerry’s senior campaign advisor, wrote to ESPN.com in an e-mail. “Remember the Sox were up 3-2 so all of Red Sox Nation was planning for a Series win.”

In another quote on Political Wire, Meehan makes a similar statement, adding the following sentence.

What Red Sox fans would not jump through hoops to be there in person?

Mickey Kaus says he’s willing to give Kerry the benefit of the doubt. My question to Mr. Kaus is “why?”

It’s certainly plausible that Kerry could have attended the last part of the game. The game ended at midnight, so let’s say Kerry leaves the reception at 9:30 p.m. Hops on the 10:00 p.m. shuttle to LaGuardia. Gets in at 11:00. He could be in his seat by 11:30. Plausible. Not bloody likely, but plausible.

So why not give Kerry the benefit of the doubt? Because it’s a great story, and Kerry’s never shared it until now. Not the “I was 30 yards away from Buckner”… he’s said that for awhile. I’m talking about the “race like hell to get to the airport in time, sit on the edge of my seat while we’re flying, run off the plane and hop a cab to get to Shea, pop my cork in the 10th only to see Buckner fail to grab the ball.”

That’s a great story. So why didn’t Kerry ever tell it? As for Meehan’s question “What Red Sox fans would not jump through hoops to be there in person?”, I can only ask Mr. Meehan if John Kerry was also at Game 7.

Now I realize in the grand scheme of things, whether or not John Kerry is truly a Red Sox fan is not of great importance. Yet much like Kerry’s hunting stories, they can only be true if you’re willing to accept the dubious as fact. And that’s not even taking into account the comment he made to New Yorkers last month (He praised the triple victories of the Jets, Giants and Yankees and said: ‘I came here to bask in your glory, came here to grab onto that winning streak.’” -Washington Post, 9/22/04).

I’ve known Red Sox fans, Senator. I am a Red Sox fan. And you sir are no Red Sox fan.

I don’t remember how I found this blog, but it’s one of my favorite Iraqi blogs. (I think it was from Healing Iraq?) Anyway, Ferid offers his thoughts on our election. His english is horrible, Ferid calls Bush a “Republication”, (though its better than my Arabic or Farsi), but it’s worth a read. A little teaser:

“Few days remained for the elections and I believe this one took more attention from the people in Middle East and specially Iraqis, than any previous elections…
The fever of elections reached here, and you hear people arguing about!!”

Meanwhile, it looks like most of the Muslim religious leaders in Iraq are coming around to the idea of free and open elections, and are encouraging their followers to vote in January. Zeyad has the details.

It looks like the French may be backing off their demand that Iraqi insurgent groups be included in the Iraq summit hosted by Egypt later this month.

It’s not an outright acknowledgement of the idiocy of their previous position, but it’s a start.

They’re fighting for which language is the official language of the Eureopean Union. From across the pond, Sky News is reporting the French are agacant that English is the dominant language for conducting business in Brussels. They’ve mounted a campaign to make French the official language of European laws.

Good to see the French are fighting for what’s really important.

For some reason my comment won’t take (due to questionable content, no less), so I can’t leave this in the thread where it belongs, but here it is anyway.

There will be no 2nd civil war if John Kerry wins. There will be much handwringing. There will be a motivation of the conservative base. You thought the 1994 Repubican Revolution was big? Wait until a President Kerry. But please do not talk of a civil war. It will invariably be taken as a threat, not a prediction, and I don’t want my site to be associated with threats of that nature.

Thanks. Be passionate about your candidate, but for the sake of all of us… be even more passionate about the strength and stability of this country.

I’ve been neglecting the blog, and I’m sorry. But I did want to take a moment to thank Bill from Metheun, Mass. Bill was nice enough to visit my Amazon Wish List and buy me a present.

Thanks for the copy of Ball Four, Bill. It was an unexpected and delightful surprise, and I appreciate it very much. You truly made my day.

My little corner of the world is experiencing the thugery of the left.

The Flagstaff, AZ state GOP office had a brick thrown through the front window.

The Lake Havasu City, AZ state GOP office received bomb threats last week.

Now we have Lizzie Edwards encouraging riots if they lose.

Are we a freakin’ third world country? Enough already.

**UPDATE**

The Arizona Democratic Party is crying foul over the GOP’s accusations that Kedwards supporters might be behind the recent acts of violence against GOPers, calling the charges “lies and innuendo”.

So if it’s not the Kedwards supporters, are they implying that Republicans are calling bomb threats into themselves? Throwing bricks through their own windows? Drawing swastikas on their own signs? Sadly, there’s people out there that probably think just that.

Much like Lizzie Edwards’ statements earlier today, there is no condemnation of the violence, just an attack on the state GOP. I guess that says it all, doesn’t it?

It’s Monday, and Arthur Chrenkoff has compiled another long list of good news from Iraq.

Items you won’t see reported anywhere else include training for Iraqi security forces being carried out by NATO, how Iraq now has a border patrol made up entirely of US trained Iraqi militia men, and how the Iraqi navy is finally getting proper training. Quote that made me smile:

” ‘I have been a sailor for 22 years, but no one ever bothered to teach me how to navigate properly or tie knots,’ said Haqi Ismail, 39, a toothless sailor, who described how in the former navy he had been sunk on three separate occasions. ‘I chose to sign up this time because I want to serve my country the only way I know how,’ he said before rushing to the side of the boat to throw an orange life-preserver into the sea to rescue a sailor-dummy who had ‘fallen’ overboard in one of many drills carried out during the day. With another 130 people working at its headquarters, the new navy already has enough staff to guard the country’s limited territorial waters without external help, but this will not happen until it gains in experience and buys more boats.”

And some good news from Fallujah - Iraqi born insurgents are starting to turn on the foreign fighters:

“Fearful of a large-scale U.S. attack, native insurgents in the Iraqi city of Fallujah are turning against allied foreign fighters. . . . The disputes have spilled over into harsh words and sporadic violence, with Fallujans killing at least five foreign Arabs in recent weeks, witnesses told the newspaper.

‘If the Arabs will not leave willingly, we will make them leave by force,’ said Jamal Adnan, a taxi driver who left his house after the house next door was bombed by U.S. aircraft targeting foreign insurgents. One of the foreign guerrillas killed by local fighters was Abu Abdallah Suri, a Syrian and a prominent member of Jordanian dissident Abu Musab Zarqawi’s Jihad group. His body was found Sunday, shot in the head and chest following a chase by a carload of tribesmen.”

If they kill eachother, that’s less work for the coalition forces.

Things are improving in Iraq, but you’d never know it by the “reporting” of by ABCNBCCNNCBS.

Makes me wonder if those reporters ever leave their hotels.
