Sorry for the lack of entries today. I’d like to say I’m busy with a blockbuster story, but I’m not. I’m getting utilities hooked up and stuff like that.
Although, now that I think about it… I will be ripping this op/ed piece that ran in USA Today on this afternoon’s show. Here’s a brief sampling.
The NRA is one of the biggest magazine publishers in the country and trumpets its views through ads, news releases, newspapers and a slickly produced Web site. What it doesn’t do — and shouldn’t do — is pretend it is providing “news.”
I’ll be honest. Prof. Tifft didn’t contact anyone with NRAnews.com for her op/ed piece, and it’s obvious she’s never even seen the show. From news about Oklahoma’s attempt to attract gun manufacturers to Louisiana’s sweeping anti-gun legislation, to Pennsylvania’s incredibly broad “assault weapons” ban, to California Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s shameless co-opting the death of police officer Isaac Espinoza to advance her political agenda… we’ve covered news stories. Not only that, we’ve covered news stories that you simply aren’t getting on a national level.
Professor Tifft also says this:
The NRA, cigarette manufacturers and advocacy groups of all stripes aren’t interested in “the truth.” Their aim is to persuade the public of a point of view without being forced to answer uncomfortable questions from reporters.
I don’t think Wayne LaPierre has ever shied away from an interview. I know I haven’t. I’ve extended an invitation to Professor Tifft to appear on today’s program, live and unedited. I guess we’ll see if she wants to “persuade the public of a point of view without being forced to answer uncomfortable questions from reporters.”
