Dean’s Folly

Bruce wanted to know when I was going to start bashing Howard Dean. The answer is “the Democrats are doing a better job of bashing Dean than I ever could.” Just look at John Kerry’s comments. Or Joe Lieberman’s. Or the spat between Dean and Wesley Clark.

I suppose I could talk about Dean’s secret energy task force. Or I could go on and on about his willfully stupid comment about Osama bin Laden’s guilt. But I don’t need to. Dean’s not a stupid guy… he’s just a guy who spouts off when he shouldn’t.

Case in point: Dean’s come to Jesus revelation. Dean’s now going to talk more about religion in the South, where it’s appropriate to do so. In the New England states, Jesus-talk will be kept to a minimum. Dean’s now turned his faith into a political plank… which is humorous because his faith has always been fairly shallow.

Here’s a guy who left the Episcopal Church because of a dispute over a bike path. A bike path! That’s like leaving the Catholic Church, not because of priests molesting little boys, but because you didn’t like the robes the parish bought for the choir. It’s an overreaction to a simple problem.

And this is the guy that some Democrats want to see in charge of foreign policy. I look at Howard Dean and see a guy who’s going to invade Mexico because Taco Bell got his order wrong.

No war for queso! No Dean in 2004!

Cam Edwards, contemplating the Democratic front-runner: I look at Howard Dean and see a guy who’s going to invade Mexico because Taco Bell got his order wrong. Now that’s anger…

What is freedom of expression? Without the freedom to offend, it ceases to exist.
