Fighting the Nanny State Since 2003

Sorry, I’ve been channeling my inner redneck by watching old Dukes of Hazzard reruns (oh Daisy!).

So Norman Mailer says the war with Iraq was just to satisfy the white male ego.

With their dominance in sport, at work and at home eroded, Bush thought white American men needed to know they were still good at something. That’s where Iraq came in…

Two thoughts.

First, I guess that means I supported the war because I want to subjugate my own biracial children?

Secondly, I thought the military didn’t allow white people in it any more. I mean, if you listen to the rantings from the fringe, it’s only minorities that gave their lives in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sorry Norm, you can’t have it both ways.

And once again, the fringe does a great job of marginalizing itself. I appreciate it. It makes my work so much easier.

Cuba is now part of the United Nations Human Rights Commission.

The Commission is chaired by Libya. The commission yesterday decided not to discuss human rights violations in Zimbabwe. The commission also ended scrutiny of Sudan, and voted down a resolution critical of Russia’s human rights record in Chechnya.

Andyou still think the U.N. is a legitimate global body?

If the U.N. was a person, it would be a 400 pound disease riddled moron, so fat and bloated it can’t get off the couch to stop the crack dealers who’ve invaded his home.

Wow. How’s that for a wretched analogy?

It was supposed to save a million dollars a year, but the volunteer substitute teacher program in Oklahoma City has only saved the district $14,000.

Why? Nobody’s volunteering.

Is it apathy? Is it discontent with the school administrators? Or could it be something more? A vast-Right Wing Conspiracy to boycott volunteerism in an effort to bring about vouchers, perhaps?

My guess is a mix of reasons #1 and 2, but I’m not ruling out #3. You know how sneaky those Republicans can be.

There’s just something sad and pathetic about this picture of Iowa State basketball coach Larry Eustachy:

Courtesy Seth Devereaux

Is it the fact that while a kicking college party rages, he’s trying to open a beer? Is it the fact that he’s old enough to be the father of these kids?
Nope.
It’s the fact he’s drinking Natural Lite.

Hey Larry, why not unscrew a bottle of Boone’s Farm while you’re at it!

**Update**

You know, the more I look at this picture, the less I think he’s opening a can of beer. I think he’s using the beer can as an ashtray. That might be worse.

“Hey, do you have an ashtray in here?”

“No, Coach, sorry. We don’t really smoke, and there’s a patio through that…”

“Aww, that’s okay. I’ll just use this beer can.”

“Well, really, we don’t like to have people…”

“Have I told you again how bad my team sucks?”

So France, Germany, Belgium, and Luxembourg want to form a new military alliance.

My only question is… Luxembourg? Isn’t that the country roughly the size of a postage stamp? You can’t fit a tank inside Luxembourg, much less an entire army.

I love the smell of failure in the morning.

Sorry about the website problems. Hopefully they’re now resolved.

From Reuters:

Splits emerged between Iraqis and returned Iraqi exiles in talks over the U.S. role in an interim government on Monday, delegates at a meeting with the country’s American postwar administrator said. Most former exiles wanted a lesser U.S. role, arguing that only Iraqis should rule the country, while those who had not left Iraq said they wanted more U.S. supervision because they
did not trust those who returned after Saddam Hussein’s fall.

Wait a second. I thought the Iraqis who hadn’t left were all chanting “America Go Home”?!

Gasp! Could it be that there are actually several different viewpoints from Iraqis? Could it be that just as there are Iraqis who want to turn Iraq into an Islamist state, there are others who welcome the United States in a transitional government??! You’d never know it by reading 90% of the news stories.

British MP George Galloway, the man accused of receiving more than $10,000,000 from Saddam Hussein’s regime, now faces an investigation into a charity set up to aid an Iraqi girl diagnosed with leukemia.

The Telegraph, which is quickly becoming my favorite paper, reports that over 800,000 pounds donated to the charity were instead spent on political campaigns and expenses.

This charity was one of Scott Ritter’s chief examples of Galloway’s benevolence.

Is it just me or has Scott Ritter turned into an anti-Cassandra, where everything he says turns out to be false? First he says we’ll never take Baghdad, that the war will be another Vietnam, now he says Galloway’s not a bad guy, and in fact, might be a patsy. Oh yeah, he also says Iraq has no WMD. The jury’s still out on that, but I’m guessing Ritter will be proven wrong there as well.

Get ready to see a lot of diversity in your news this week. I’m looking forward to more quotes from the transgendered left-handed Samoan minority.

The Don Juan Center.

Wow. I didn’t realize stuff like this really existed. And yes, it’s safe for work, although if your buddies catch you reading any of this stuff you’ll never live it down.

The Telegraph is either going to go out of business or be named “Paper of the Year” for what they’ve reported in the past few weeks. They were the paper breaking the story of George Galloway, and now they’re reporting a link between Iraq and Al-Queda. Damning stuff it if turns out to be true.

-Festival of the Arts. Amber Ale Pot Roast in a Bread Bowl, Gyro, Tequila Bread Pudding. yummm.

-Lawn care. Here’s a bit of lawn care trivia. Susie Coelho, the host of “Surprise Gardnerer” on HGTV, was in the movie “Beat Street 2: Electric Boogaloo”.

-Tuck and point the brick at my house. Not fun, but a necessary chore.

The Christian Science Monitor has an incredible story detailing the alleged payoff to British MP George Galloway. If you’ve been wondering what all the fuss is about, you need to read this story.

Posted by: Cam

Two Americans. Two entirely different viewpoints.

The first is Scott Ritter, who’s op-ed piece in The Guardian tries to show MP George Galloway is a really nice guy, even if he DID take millions of dollars from the Saddam Hussein regime in exchange for his support.

The second is Mark Goldblatt, who’s op-ed piece in the National Review tries to show that America, far from being a nefarious empire, is actually the most benevolent empire in history.

Once again, Wylie is the man for finding this story. If you haven’t read his blog, do so. Now. Okay, you can hold off until you finish this, but then head over there, seriously.

The Houston Chronicle is reporting that Chaplain Josh Llano has been cleared of all charges related to the baptizing of soldiers at Camp Bushmaster.

Now what say we organize an effort to get that Knight-Ridder reporter disciplined for such a misleading and biased story.

Looks like we’ve got the eight of spades, Tariq Aziz, in custody. Question is, does he know anything about the whereabouts of Saddam Hussein. My guess is no. Aziz always seemed to play the “lackey” role, rather than the role of “trusted advisor”.

Nicholas de Genova- Columbia professor who called for “a million Mogadishus” in Iraq. Now the coward is refusing to show up to teach his classes, claiming he’s received over one thousand death threats. You can send him an email (a non threatening email hopefully) at npd18@columbia.edu. A note… Columbia has pulled Professor de Genova from their email database. Could that mean he’s been fired, or are they just tired of getting emails?

Seth Yatovitz- Palo Alto resident who says he’s opposed to yellow ribbons on the lamposts in Burlingame, CA. He doesn’t even live in the city, yet he’s threatening to sue. Is this a great country or what? Email him at seth_adam@yahoo.com If I get a non webmail address for him, I’ll post that as well.

Mothers of Military- The Oklahoma City chapter is looking for items that can be used either in a garage sale to raise money for care packages, or for items that can be used in the care packages. Email Sandra Stewart-Lynn at sslovesangels@hotmail.com

Scott Ritter- Former UN weapons inspector who was nice enough to include his email in an opinion piece in the Guardian. Let him know you love him by sending him mail at WSRitter@aol.com

Meg Laughlin- Miami Herald writer who penned the story about Chaplain Josh Llano that was recently proven false by Army officials. Her email address (again, civility is a must) is mlaughlin@herald.com.

Syria says it’s not the time to lift the sanctions against Iraq. They say they’re concerned about the United States exploiting the Iraqis oil.

Kinda like that illegal Syrian pipeline?

Rick Santorum’s in real trouble now. A polygamist is now going after the Pennsylvania senator.

I wonder how the gay activists feel about a polygamist saying, “don’t lump polygamy in with the really bad stuff like homosexuality.”

Posted by: Cam

Because you just can’t talk about sodomy at 7 o’clock in the morning.

Nope, I don’t think the Senator Santorum story will be getting a lot of play on my show anytime soon. It’s not that I don’t want to talk about it. It’s just that my wife has the radio on KTOK when she takes the kids to school, and if I feel uncomfortable talking about something while my 12 year old (not to mention 2 year old) is listening… then the topic stays off the table.

Doesn’t mean I can’t talk about it here, however. Thanks to Wylie, I got to read Andrew Sullivan reading William F. Buckley’s latest piece. Buckley’s take on the Texas sodomy lawsuit is basically this: The Texas laws say gays can’t do what straight people can, and the facts of the matter are against Texas.

My honest opinion on this? The law in Texas is wrong.

This has nothing to do with my thoughts on homosexuality, bi-sexuality, lesbianism, transgenderedismitsism (I have no idea), etc. It just means that in this particular case, the government isn’t playing fair.

While stumbing through the internet today, I ran across this story by AFP, the French news agency.

Chanting, singing and beating their chests, hundreds of thousands of Shi’ite Muslims celebrated the climax on Wednesday of a pilgrimage that has shown they are a force to be reckoned with in postwar Iraq… The Shi’ites, who make up 60 percent of Iraq’s 26 million population, have also been delighting in their new political freedoms by demanding U.S. troops leave the country.

My goodness. Hundreds of thousands of anti-American protesters?

Not quite. While 1,000,000 Shi’ites may have descended upon Karbala, the number of anti-American protesters was much smaller, as I found in this earlier story.

The second and last day of the ceremony, outlawed for nearly quarter of a century, was met with mild protests demanding an end to the US-led occupation, despite appeals by clerics for a show of anti-US feeling… Despite loudspeaker trucks touring the city since late Tuesday calling for a huge anti-US demonstration, protests were muted, with no more than the 3,000 people who demonstrated Tuesday turning out.

Both stories were written by AFP, but obviously the editors decided to delete the reference to the small anti-American turnout in later stories.

Who knew that AFP is French for CNN?

This tussle between Newt Gingrich and Colin Powell would make a great Celebrity Deathmatch.

It might be just me, but if I had to choose between Colin Powell and Newt Gingrich representing the Republican Party.. Colin would win hands down.

I got involved in a discussion at another message board about the following article from ABC News.

The US military has revealed it is holding juveniles at its high-security prison for terrorists at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, known as Camp Xray.
The commander of the joint task force at Guantanamo, Major General Geoffrey Miller, says more than one child under the age of 16 is at the detention centre.
However, Maj Gen Miller has revealed little more about their welfare.
Maj Gen Miller says the US is holding “juvenile enemy combatants” at the centre, confirming rumours of children being held.
He has refused to reveal how many there are, their exact ages or their countries of origin.
He says they are being well cared for and are kept in facilities separate to adult prisoners.
The children are still being interrogated and will continue to be held at Guantanamo.
About 660 prisoners are in the camp.
They have not been tried or convicted of any offence but are being held as part of what the US calls its war on terror.

My first reaction was, “so what?” We already know that there are pint-sized terrorists used by many different organizations. But JPhillips, who’s left a note or two on here, had this to say.

I don’t even now what to think. How can we claim any moral superiority anymore? I’m ashamed at the depths we will sink to prosecute the war on terror.

Pardon me while I puke. Ashamed at the depths WE will sink? First of all, we didn’t kill these kids. Second of all, the reason these kids are here is because they were trying to kill us. Third of all, the article makes no mention of any injustices these kids are suffering because of their detainment.

Once again, those who disagree with the President put a diabolical spin on what is essentially a non-story.

We’re at war. If detaining these kids instead of shooting them before they shoot one of our soldiers is sinking to a new low, to what heights would you have us reach? Should we farm these kids out to foster families here in America? Should we just return them to Afghanistan and let them rejoin the Taliban and Al-Queda networks?

Oh! Here’s an idea… why don’t we ship them off to Hollywood and dump them off at Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon’s house. They’re wealthy, they can take care of a few more kids.

Who knows? Maybe Michael Moore could even spare a bedroom or two.

*Retraction. In my original text, I lumped JPhillips in with those who call President Bush a Nazi. I’m sorry for the mis-statement. And JPhillips, you’ll have to excuse the ramped up rhetoric. It’s what happens when I read Michael Savage before blogging.

Thanks to instapundit.com for the story of a Yale college professor who penned a column about two freshman who dared question statements made during a “teach in”.

From the column by Prof. Jim Sleeper entitled “Recalling Yale in ‘68: Let’s have that civility again:

And when freshman arive here primed to attack professors in public, as two did in a recent article in Front Page, an off-campus publication, I smell something worse than youthful exuberance, a neo-Stalinism wafting up not from the SDS of the 1960s but from the YCL of the 1930s — the Young Communist League and it’s right-wing counterparts

For the record, the report by the two freshmen in question can be found here.

Doesn’t sound like Professor Sleeper wants to be too civil, does it?

Now, where is Tim Robbins today. This professor wonders how these two freshman can have the audacity to criticize their faculty. He calls them “neo-Stalinists” and later calls the the “fedayeen Uncle Sam”. He never refutes the claims of the two students, he just doesn’t like the fact that they dare question what the faculty has to say.

What does it say about your belief system when the writings of a pair of 18 year old girls can make you feel so threatened you resort to calling them names?

*Update 4/22: I interviewed Eliana Johnson for a few minutes today. She’s a sharp mind. I’ll be looking forward to hearing more from her in the future.
